Two Branches Same Tree
Two weeks at home under my ma’s house. It has been probably the most eventful two weeks we have had as a family for awhile. The transition home with Dhon has been a big responsibility and blessing.
As my mom and I take on 100% of the cares for Dhon now, it is more than we could have imagined. Especially, coming from such a collaborative caring team at QLI. Though we are adjusting now and figuring out a new season of life, we can see why caregiving has a high burnout rate. BUT we know Dhon is worth is and all the blessings that we get to experience through pales in comparison. We are committed to this life for Dhon.
It does truly help us appreciate our care teams so much more as well. All the bathroom breaks, meds administered, transfers, changes, rehab, hygiene, meal times that we got helped with truly helped give us natural breaks and rest throughout the day. As we continue to find the flow of this, we pray for pockets of rest for Dhon, my mom and I.
Our brother Devin was able to visit us during the move and we got to have some fun bro time together. We all love watching the Karate Kid, the version with Jaden Smith. So we had to go watch the newest version. Devin consistently gives up a week of his month to come spend time with Dhon and to help the family when needed. A true blessing even in his busy life.
We are excited to plan Dhon’s 19th birthday coming up in about a month. We are hoping that friends and family are willing to make it out. I will try to set up a way for people to say Happy Birthday one way or another, so stay tuned!
