Burgs and Bros
Dhon and I have been blessed with the community here in Lincoln. Helping Dhon and the family get situated in a new area hasn’t been the easiest but God has been providing beyond belief.
We have been fortunate to be within 1.5 miles of both the health club gym and a great local church. They are actually right across the street from one another. It was a God Send. Two of my favorite places to be is an actual stone’s throw away. It’s about a 30 minute stroll from my mamas house.
At both of these places we made quick friends. The pastor at our new church has been so accommodating and has established his church to be so welcoming to Dhon and I. They practice full congregational prayer every other week, so Dhon and I consistently get prayed for in person. We know people are praying for us all the time, but to hear it and feel it hits different at times. We are excited to have a new church family here, though Dhon and I both miss Pioneer Church back in Oregon. At the gym we have had a few people approach us and start conversation, but I think most people feel like they don’t know what to say. If you are one of those people reading this and just come say hi, Dhon would love that. One person (pictured above) became very intentional with us at the gym and a friendship ignited. He wanted to get involved with Dhon and has helped him with exercises at the gym without barely even knowing us. He then invited Dhon and I for a pool day with his kids and after that carried Dhon up a flight of stairs to his apartment to hang out for the night play some Star Wars Battlefront II with the kids and eat ice cream. God has blessed us with this man and his family, we are excited for a long term friendship and brotherhood.
This Thursday, I am getting excited to speak on the panel I talked about on our last newsletter. Here is the link if you have no clue what I am talking about. Caregiver Panel Info The Bradley Cooper also helped produced a documentary on Caregiving that is so touching, I invite you to check it out also. Caregiving Documentary It will be awesome to connect with other caregivers and people in the community who are passionate about this. We are excited to advocate for our own personal journey and showcase Dhon.
Thank you for your continued prayers, I will never not mention that because the power of prayer is beyond what we can even humanly comprehend. We have noticed from the 3 weeks being home that some of Dhon’s routines are quite burdensome without the right resources at home. For instance we have him shower and use the bathroom in the garage currently, which gets muggy and humid at times. We transfer him into the passenger seat of my mom’s Subaru and squeeze his 80lb wheel chair in the back. Though we will always find a way to make it work we are praying and seeking resources to get a bathroom addition and a wheel chair accessible van. Please join us in praying for these, share resources to people/organizations and spread the word.
With love, Shalom
