Home is where…
So many ways to finish this phrase. Home for Dhon has been in hospitals, group homes, rehab centers, church, where friends are, where family are. But this new season of life. Home is where his mama is.
Since being back home in Lincoln he has had more quality time with ma more than almost any other time in his life. They have enjoyed spa days, meals and sleeping in the same room since we have been back in Lincoln.
Dhon is adjusting very well to being in a house and not under constant health care staff 24/7. Lots of new routines to learn have been difficult but Dhon is a trooper. We do miss our facilities and what seemed like an endless supply of medical equipment and supplies available. So we are on a journey of obtaining what Dhon needs through other resources and making it work for the mean time.
Dhon currently showers in the garage using a pop up shower and a garden hose. We are currently working on an accessible bathroom construction in his living area. Please be praying for that.
We currently transport Dhon places by walking or sometimes in our ma’s subaru with Dhon in the front seat and squeezing the wheel chair in the back. Not ideal as we still pray and search for a van, but it works in the mean time.
Dhon is planning on starting an intensive outpatient therapy program at Madonna this time in Lincoln very soon. We had evals this past week and we love our team so far.
Overall, Dhon seems happier and more at peace being at home. Mostly, because he can relax and take his time with bathroom breaks and meals and everything. He’s been on a very strict schedule the past 4 months. He has also had freedom to go out with the family, to the store, mall, gym etc.
It is hard to capture everything that Dhon has been up to the past two weeks but these are some highlights. Feel free to reach out to any family member if you want to know more!
