A Night at Dhon
Last weekend, we were left breathless with the teamwork and commitment QLI displayed by throwing a dance party prom in Dhon’s honor. This event was more than just a typical dance. The whole QLI campus was invited and involved.
So many people were involved in helping Dhon get the proper attire, equipment, set up, tear down, prep etc. Let’s try to recap the experience shall we?
First one of our closest RT’s began the planning process and orchestrated a lot of it, she’s the best! Then we set up a photo shoot downtown, with another one of our RT’s the week before (peep the previous blog if you haven’t already).
On the actual prom day, while the team was setting up. Mom and I were getting Dhon fresh and clean. We got a special wheel chair that stands, so he can have that experience moving/dancing while standing. We’re praying we get one of those approved through insurance.
We came out of Dhon’s room to greet a chauffeur who then took us driving in a luxury van (limo). We were then welcomed to a private candle lit dinner with the finest Italian food in Omaha. After dinner, the dance floor was decorated, we had a personal professional dinner and the place was packed.
Dancing and pictures took up most of the night. My mother and Dhon were crowned queen and king and they got to share a dance together. With a live performance from one of the residents. It was truly beautiful. I plan to showcase more pictures on the newsletter. It’s been a busy week to say the least.
We are very grateful for experiences like this as it inspires us to continue to seek out new ways to give Dhon, our family and those around us meaningful memories despite some of Dhon’s physical limitations.
Lastly, Dhon is getting ready for discharge from QLI at the end of next week. Unless something drastic changes we will be in Lincoln, NE very soon. Lots of moving parts with the transition but we know God has got us!
