Started from the Bottom…
This week Dhon starts another rehab program with a new team. We started at Randall’s Children Hospital doing minimal rehab each day. 30 minutes 3x a week tops. It involved him using a tilt to stand, you can see he still had lots of medical equipment he used in the post picture. I remember doing some edge of the bed sitting and locating with his eyes between two different color bean bags. All great work, but not much clear results. We then went to Salem Rehab which was about 1-2 hours 3x per week. So small upgrade we saw some great improvements. Purposeful movements in his face, arms, and legs. Next upgrade was Madonna in Omaha. 3-4 hours 5x per week. Dhon got his trach removed, he began eating and really started to expand his physical abilities. See the Madonna video if you haven’t yet. We were sure that this was top tier rehab, which it was. Yet God provided even more great rehab through QLI in Omaha. 3-4 hours 5x per week. The relationships and skills built there are unmatched. Dhon continued his momentum from Madonna and continue to show great improvements. The most notable one was communication skills with both non verbal and vocalizing. After 2 months of that we transitioned to Madonna Outpatient Day Program which was 3-5 hours 3x per week. Our rehab team challenged Dhon in new ways and built on the progress he has already shown.
Now we are on our next stint of rehab. We will be doing Outpatient with Madonna still here in Lincoln but it will be 3-4 hours 2x per week. He will have a new team and we will now begin to incorporate at home workouts and workouts at the local gym. We are excited for another journey, and we are also grateful to our past rehab teams and facilities for working so hard for Dhon. It is cliche but we could not be here without you, seriously. Thank you to all the rehab members who have added one piece back to the beautiful puzzle that is Dhon!
